Arsenal - Startinglineup
Formation - Big changes to the Arsenal team since last season, with the notable absence of hero and captain RVP. However, formation wise, the setup is relatively unchanged, with Wenger still preferring a 4-2-3-1.
First choice XI
GK - Manonne has performed reasonably well in place of the injured Szczesny at the start of the season, however when fully fit, Szczesny is expected to retain the number 1 spot.
Def - Sagna and Vermaelen are the most nailed on defenders, with Gibbs when fit also owning the LB spot, particularly given Santos' recent displays of perceived incompetence. However, with Gibbs unavailable, Vermealen slots into the left back position, with Mertesacker and Koscielny playing central.
Mertesacker and Koscielny can be rotated depending on both form and the opposition - with Merts being preferred against bigger teams with set piece threats, and Koscielny being preferred against pace up top.
Mid/Fwd -The trio of Wilshire, Arteta, and Cazorla should be Arsene's first pick in the middle of the park now, with Arteta effectively playing the QB holding role, Wilshire an elegant terrior, and the mecurial Spaniard Cazorla playing the furthest forward, and therefore offering the highest points potential.
The first choice wide players for Wenger isn't clear from the early season games, however we feel it will ultimately evolve to be Walcott (right) and Podolski (left), with Gervinho playing in place of Theo or Giroud dependent on form. Up top though, expect to see Giroud leading the line most games.
